Getting Crafty

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Yesterday afternoon my girlfriend & I set out to be little DIY-ers and complete a Pinterest find found here.  I'm certain if you haven't already made one yourself that you've at least seen this little piece of art floating around the internet, and if you're anything like me, you loved it the instant you saw it.  Neither of us are by-the-book direction followers, so we kind of improvised a few things here and there, but I'm excited at how mine turned out & hope to make a second to commemorate Nick's home state, PA { note to self: that would have been a much simpler one to tackle my first time.  live & learn }

Helpful Hints:

  • We chose to use a nice white fabric to cover our wood blocks rather than paint, so I'm not sure whether or not the paint would have chipped after all the nailing
  • Before threading, make sure all nails are uber secure - you don't want to end up like me re-nailing amidst threading
  • I counted the number of nails in my heart & around the state and divvied it up so there was equal spacing per nail
  • It was tedious to thread through all the nails, but it turns out 100x better if you push each thread to the bottom of the nail after each time

What should my next Pinterest craft be?

On the to-do list: 1. 2. 3.

Girl I admire you for actually doing the craft you saw on pinterest. I never do them! Also, I love your subtitle at the top of the blog... your attempt at avoiding the gym and doing the laundry. Genius I tell you! Just found your blog and I've loved getting to know you better- you're adorable and I'm excited to follow along!

I've been dying to try this...I have most of the stuff, but just haven't gotten around to it just yet. Maybe I will now that I see how easy it is :)
