Lifestyle Makeover: Q&A Session

Monday, July 30, 2012

I just realized that I haven't posted about the lifestyle makeover lately...  Partially because I haven't had much new news to share, and partially because I had been struggling to get to the next decade for weeks!  I am proud to say that I hit the 40-lbs of weight loss mark on Wednesday (7/25) annnd made it to the next decade!

I also got a question from one of my sister's friends in my inbox and thought it would be great to share it on the blog...  I also decided that if YOU have any other questions, feel free to ask either openly or anonymously and I'd be happy to answer :)

Hi Christina!

Im gonna sound like such a creep but I'm Bella's friend and sorority sister and I know I've met you before at a penn state tailgate so I hope you at least remember me :)

As I was creeping like I'm sure we all do! Haha i came across your blog and saw that you have had A LOT of success with the 17 DD and I was just wondering if you have any good advice or tips you could share or even tell me how you got to where you are such as if you ever cheated or what you usually eat (and if you exercised because I hate that part of weight loss!) because I could use all the help possible! I've been struggling with my weight for forever now! And btw I am on the 17 DD as well and have been on and off all summer! I hope you don't think I'm a weirdo and I thank you for all your help in advance!!!

Hey girl! No, not creepy - very flattering!!

Okay, so here's the good/bad/ugly:

I started the diet on April 17th and followed it to a tee until the 4th cycle. I think the only exceptions I made were still healthy ones for example -- spaghetti squash during cycle 1, hummus during cycle 2, sugar free popsicles + jello during all cycles, etc. Within the first "go around" I lost 25-30 lbs. It felt amazing. I didn't do any of the recommended exercising, but did the occasional 2 mile walk around the neighborhood, 5lb arm weights during real housewives of oc for 10 mins, or maaaaaaybe 1-2 runs on the treadmill. like over the course of all 4 cyles. me + exercise doesn't mix.

I found that once I introduced cycle 3/4 foods I totally capped off my weigh tloss. I was maintaining, but not losing, so I began again on cycle 1 (lasting like 2 days this time haha), but really stuck to cycle 2/3 foods very strictly.

Another MAJOR component (especially if you're not exercising) I swear is drinking plenty of water & honestly cutting out alcohol 100%. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes - about 4-5 days after I've had a drink I notice that little extra push in weight loss.

I'm currently at 40lbs of weightloss, do no exercise, and just had a chocolate chip chocolate cookie after dinner w/ 2 glasses of red wine - eek! on days like this; however, I mentally prepare myself for "punishment" or getting "back on track" for the rest of the week - you know? it's a balance for sure!

you also have to realize it's not all going to happen at once. eating healthy for a week isn't going to last a lifetime - you have to eat healthy for a lifetime to make an impact. sure, you'll drink + binge on bad junk foods, but don't wait until monday to get back on track. ((and don't have a bad day everyday - it doesn't work that way!!))

a typical day looks like this (combos depending on how hungry I am!!):

Breakfast
-
1 vanilla greek yogurt OR kiefer

1-2 hardboiled egg whites only (no salt, no yolk)- eat these as snacks as well
1-2 cups of coffee either black or with skim milk (no sugar)

1-2 cups of warm lemon water

Snack #1 (pick 1)

sugar free jello

grapefruit w/ truvia

green apple

berries (any + all)

serving size of hummus

Lunch
salad w/ any veggie toppings + ff balsalmic dressing perhaps the occasional grilled chicken, shrimp, and/or lean turkey on top (I find that if I eat a hearty salad for lunch, I'm guaranteeing that I'm getting those veggies in my body and don't stress as much for dinner - especially if we're going out to eat!)

fruit

Snack #2 (pick 1)

Low fat cottage cheese (I use fiber one)

sugar free jello

any veggies

Kiefer

Dinner
broiled/grilled chicken

scallops wrapped in turkey bacon

salmon

spaghetti squash w/ sugar free low sodium tomato sauce

ground turkey w/ zucchini, mushroom, onion in sauce

chili w/ no cheese + ground turkey

((all of which accompanied with some sort of veggie - asparagus, brussel sprouts, baked eggplant, baked tomatoes, baked artichokes, etc.))

remember, NOTHING tastes as good as skinny feels... and if you're having an off day and can't shake it, be "bad" in moderation (i.e. try low-fat froyo with berries + almonds instead of a mint chocolate cookie sundae!)

let me know if I can help more

So with all that said, are any of YOU partaking in a diet + exercise regiment for a special event, self-satisfaction, or health reasons?  If so, I'd love to hear!  Incase you didn't already know and live under a rock, I'm

Sweating for the Wedding!
((I consider this evidence I do make it to a gym at least once in a lifetime))

More next week on my "saving graces" during the makeover!
psst: Thanks for the message / post inspiration, Jill!

Awesome for you, girl! I remember the summer going into my freshman year of high school I busted my butt and lost 40 lbs. Lost twenty more over the next year and it's just the biggest accomplishment when you get to such a healthy place. Good for you ♥
