This is one of those on-again-off-again relationships I’ve
been having lately with my blog. It’s
almost as bad as a high school relationship, but whaddayagonnado?!
So as promised, I’ll be sharing part 2 of our honeymoon in Cancun,
Mexico! If you missed it, you can find
part one here to get caught up!
We decided while down in Mexico to use some of our resort
credit towards a day tour of the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza. Although we weren’t pleased with how much
time we actually spent in the van traveling, we did have a full (and long) day
of education! We woke up around 7:15 to
eat a quick breakfast and catch our bus by 8:00. After an hour of pick-ups at sister resort
properties we were finally on our way.
Our tour guide was very informative and passionate about the Mayan
culture; he shared stories, artifacts, legends, and pictures with us to prepare
us for the excitement that was to come.
We took a lunchtime pit stop at a local Mexican buffet and shortly after
arrived at the site. It was hot as
you-know-what, but worth every minute.
At one point in the tour we were actually standing on where the Mayans
were convinced was the “center of the world!”
And although everyone made such a fuss about 12/21/12, the Mayans never truly
predicted that to be the end of the world, but rather hadn’t written the
calendar beyond that date.
I won’t go into a lot of detail about the tour and
information because there is no way I could do it true justice; however, I will
say it was worth the trip. Although we
were gone from 8am until 7:30pm (it was around 2.5 hours away from our resort),
it was worth spending the day together engulfed in such history and
wonder. Heck, I can’t even master the
art of a good red sauce, let alone contribute to massive man-made ruins!
Aside from the ruins and a swim-with-the-dolphins excursion,
Nick and I just played our trip by ear and got to enjoy the little moments with
one another. Following are a few
pictures to capture some of these moments.
On the way to Chichen Itza
We're here!
Us out to dinner (so fun dressing up for the hubs!)
Enjoying poolside drinks
Our Presidential Suite upgrade (we are Kennedys now, you
know!)
And last, but not least, breathtaking sunrises side by side.
Mexico, I hated your septic systems outside of my
resort. I did not understand 95% of what
everyone was saying. I felt like a small
part of a great unknown, but man did I love the time spent with you. We will be back, dear Mexico… but we probably won’t be taking you up on
your million suggestions to go to club Coco Bongo, but rather will walk the
beaches, drink poolside, wake to see the sunrise, and let baby turtles out to
the ocean to live long happy lives. Thank
you for the memories. Sincerely, Newlywed.
Up next: we wed.
[please continue to be patient – we just closed on our 1st
home last Wednesday and are hard at work moving, painting, and settling
in! Those updates will come at a later
time!!]

You guys remind me of my wife and I. We just came back from our honeymoon in Jamaica a few weeks ago. We wanted to travel in style so we decided to seek a private jet charter. We never flew on a private jet before so this was a special treat. We felt like royalty, living the luxurious life. We had such a beautiful experience.
I am a huge fan of Cancun and though the nightlife is amazing, I am more fond of the relaxing time spent by the water. Beautiful view from your suite!
Love the hot tub on the balcony! That's awesome.
We are headed to Mexico on our honeymoon in January - ridiculously excited!
