Lifestyle Makeover: Dos and Don'ts of Dieting

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Hi everybody!  Okay, so I am first off going to apologize for letting this whole "blog about the lifestyle makeover thing" take a back seat for the last 2 weeks (oopsies), but don't worry, I'm back in action & won't leave you hanging again!  I have another post already lined up for next week, so don't you worry your cute little self - I'm ba-aack.

Now that that's taken care of, it's really nothing too too fancy this week, but I thought it would be important/useful to post my biggest DOs & DON'Ts of Dieting.  I'd love to hear what you've got to add on to these, and hope you find some/any/all helpful!

DOs:
[1] Find a diet buddy
Think about it: misery loves company, right?
So does a girl on a mission to lose some extra flab...
Trust me, no one will pick you up & put you in your place better than a diet buddy ;)

[2] Find something that drives you
Give yourself something to motivate you/look forward to!
It gives you more of a purpose and makes it that much more worth your while
when you accomplish your goals.

[3] Meal Plan
You're more inclined to stick by your diet if it's easy & convenient.
Set yourself up for success by pre-portioning meals/snacks & meal plan difficult meals.
For us, dinner is the most difficult meal - by the end of a long day I want nothing to do with cooking dinner...  but if I'm not careful, that can be a quick catalyst for an excuse to eat fast food/unhealthy items!

DON'Ts:
[1] Don't obsess over the scale
You are not going to lose weight every day/week.  Just realize/get over that now...
Use the scale to document progress & reflect on how/why something happened,
but don't use it to make yourself miserable.

[2] Don't binge
If you're anything like me, that's how you got yourself in this mess in the first place!
PORTION CONTROL, people!  You can do it, trust me ;)

[3] Don't forget to be proud of yourself
via
You have already done the hardest thing:
commit to changing your life!
Don't forget to be proud of yourself for all the progress you make
(I give you total permission to reward yourself at special landmarks!!   Shopping sprees, manicure, whatever it may be, go for it!!)

Good luck with your diet / exercising this week!
I'm probably having a Greek Yogurt if your reading this during breakfast time,
A salad if you're reading around 12pmish,
or baked chicken w/ veggies if you're reading around dinner time ;)
nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!

Great advice Christina! I so agree with you! I'm really bad about spluring when I forget to meal plan.
